PULSES CANOLA CEREALS Some customers have contract limitations on fall application of glyphosate. Talk to your grain buyers about which crop protection products you intend to use, and to confirm that these products will not cause concern for export or domestic customers. PRE-HARVEST GLYPHOSATE should only be applied when seed moisture is LESS THAN 30% < 30 % PRE-HARVEST GLYPHOSATE STAGING GUIDE Seed moisture is less than 30% in the least mature field sections. The seed is firm and reasonable pressure from your thumbnail leaves a dent. Recommended harvest: usually 7 days after application. Oats MAY NOT be accepted if treated with pre-harvest gyphosate – check with your grain buyer before applying. Malt barley WILL NOT be accepted if treated with pre-harvest glyphosate. By applying at 50-60% seed colour change in the least mature areas of the field, growers can be confident seed moisture will be <30%. At this stage, seeds in the main stem will be: PEAS : Most pods (80%) are yellow/ golden brown; seeds in bottom pods are detached and rattle in pod. CHICKPEAS: Plants are yellowed with mature pods. Seeds have changed colour and detached themselves from their pods; pods rattle when shaken. FABA BEANS: At 30%, leaves are drying down and stems are green to brown in colour; lower pods are dark brown/black. DRY BEANS: At 30%, 80-90% of leaves are lost and 80% of pods are yellow. Seed is white inside. LENTILS: 80% of the plant is yellow to brown.
